Actually I don’t think it is. A pair of shorts is a 2-holed torus, but this donut cup is a 3-holed torus. If there was no opening at the top it would be homeomorphic to a pair of shorts (and useless as a drinking apparatus).

Did you ever consider the fact that topolocially a human being is equivalent to a cup of coffee? And some even to a donut, topologically or otherwise?
